The varsity pop, jazz and show choir at FMHS, "Shades of Blue" sings music of the popular genre. Rehearsals are before school. Membership is by audition only. Shades of Blue performs throughout the community and participates in festivals and contests throughout the year.

This is an award-winning ensemble. In addition to receiving "Superior" ratings for nine consecutive years at the LISD solo and ensemble contest, "Shades of Blue" was recently selected to perform in concert before the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band at the UNT at Addison Jazz Festival. The ensemble also sang the National Anthem for a recent Texas Rangers home game, and at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.  Shades of Blue has performed with a number of guest artists, including University of North Texas Jazz Studies professors Mike Steinel (trumpet) and Stefan Karlsson (piano).
