Auditions
FMHS Choir Auditions for Transfer Students
Students new to FMHS will sing a placement audition on the first day of school.  Bring a prepared piece (something learned in a lesson or for a solo/ensemble contest), and be prepared to sight-read.  Based on this audition, students will be placed in the ensemble most suited for their level of development.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Choirs at FMHS.

Q: I just made cheerleading (drill team, football). Do I have to give up choir?

A: No, no, no! Students can take choir and cheerleading, choir and drill team, choir and football….any combination you want. We have choir kids in soccer, softball, football, and all kinds of other things. If you want to do it, it can be done.

Q: I'm worried about my grades at high school, and I want to take advanced classes? Can I do all that and take Choir?

A: Of course. We have LEAP students, students taking pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement courses, students on the top-flight "Distinguished Achievement Plan"…and we want them in these programs. We want all of our students to do well in their courses. We encourage them to, we help them find other students to serve as tutors, and we support them when they struggle. Choir is a great thing to have when you need to find someone to lend a hand.

Q: Choir is going to keep me awfully busy, though, isn't it?

A: Only if you want it to. Students are required to attend only a handful of performances each year, and they are spread out over the entire school year. Now, if you really want to stay busy, we have lots for you to do: audition for All-State, participate in solo and ensemble, sing a solo on one of our pop shows, etc. But you will only be really busy if you want to be.

Q: What happens if a game and a concert conflict? My coach says I'll get benched.

A: We will work it out. We'll make certain that you are not penalized for participating in choir. Again, being really involved is a good thing, not a bad one. We don't want to see you punished for being good at a number of things.

Q: So, the bottom line is that I can do choir and another sport or activity if I really want to, right?

A: That's the bottom line. If you want to, you can do whatever you want to. And We'll be happy to help you do it!
